The FDA has banned Darvon, Darvocet and other brand/generic drugs containing propoxphene – a painkiller that has been around since 1950’s. Ten million people are estimated taking Darvocet and other propoxphene painkiller drugs. If you are taking Darvon or Darvocet you should NOT immediately stop taking the drug, as there are some sever withdrawal symptoms. The FDA overruled the panel asking Darvon/Darvocet makers to conduct studies of the drugs effect on the heart. The results from the tests resulted to the FDA ban. File a Darvocet lawsuit today if you or someone you know has taken the drug and are experiencing any side effects.

Darvocet Congestive heart failure information:

This drug puts patients at risk of abnormal or even fatal heart rhythm abnormalities. Public Citizen backlashed at the FDA for waiting too long to protect the public. They say that due to the negligence of the FDA at least 1-2 thousand people have died in the U.S. using the propoxphene since the time the U.K. ban was announced. John Jenkins, MD, director of FDA’s office of new drugs at the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research was quoted as saying “The drug puts patients at risk of abnormal or even fatal heart rhythm abnormalities, combined with prior safety data, this altered our risk assessment."

It is impossible to know exactly how many deaths are linked to propoxyphene but an FDA study shows that more deaths are linked to that drug that to the other alternative painkillers.

Jenkins says that long-term users should not worry. The heart effects are not cumulative. Once people stop using propoxphenem the side effects should go away. If you or anyone you know has taken either Darvon or Darvocet and are experiencing side effects or other situations such as heart related death, they should contact an attorney today.
