You can’t just get a degree, rent a space and some equipment, put a sign on the door and call it a practice. It takes work to build a successful practice, and although most dentists don’t take any marketing classes in college, they will find if they had taken marketing classes, they would come in handy. There are several easy, inexpensive ways that dentists can get their practice stated on the path to success. In this article we will discuss a few of the ways dentists can get started with marketing.

Once you are up and running, the first thing you want to do as a new dentist, is to market to your sphere of influence. Your sphere of influence is all the people in your life that you have met or may know of you. If someone already knows of you, you have a much better chance of earning their business than a complete stranger, unless they know you for the wrong reason. You can get started by sending everyone you know a postcard or letter. Then, get more personal by reaching out to them via phone, email or even on a social networking site. The postcard is nice to get them acquainted with the fact that you’re a dentist, but the personal touch of a phone call or message will make it hard for them to say no to you, even if they already have a dentist. This is a very powerful way to start marketing you r practice, because it’s inexpensive and very effective.

The next marketing method that may help you is bringing in a whitening system and offering it for a reduced price. No one wants to visit a dentist, unless they are getting a cosmetic improvement. Teeth whitening are an 11 billion dollar industry and there are several affordable systems that can be brought into your practice. By offering a great price, you will bring in new customers, still make a profit on the whitening and create a buzz about your business which is sure to generate referrals. Be sure to market this service to your sphere of influence contacts, and send it out to all patients when you send out their 6 month appointment cards. Offer a great value for your patient to come in for a whitening session, and an even better value when they bring a friend. This is sure to get your business off on the right foot.
