Bone cancer is a very rare kind of cancer which is found in the United States. There are less than 2,500 people who are diagnosed with bone cancer each year. The origination of this cancer is found in the bone. The bones are affected to a great extent.  Bone cancers are named according to the location of bone. The Osteoid is affected due to Osteosarcoma. This is a hard compacted part of the bone. The diagnosis is usually found in young adults and children. The development is mainly found in the upper arm and the knee. The occurrence of Chondrosarcoma is found in the cartilage. This is a tissue which is found on the end of the bones. People over 50 years of age are most commonly affected by this type of cancer. This cancer is commonly found in the pelvis region. The occurrence of Ewing's sarcoma is found in the immature tissues of the bone marrow.   • Genetically linked medical disorders
There are various diseases due to which the risk of developing primary bone cancers increases to a great extent. Some disorders that are genetically linked include the Rothmund Thomson syndrome, Li-Fraumeni syndrome and various other conditions that predispose a patient to various cancerous tumors. Children with retinoblastoma have great chances of developing this type of cancer. People who have a higher risk of Multiple Exostoses and Osteosarcoma have a great likelihood of developing Chondrosarcoma.
  • Non - genetically linked medical disorders
The risk of developing Osteosarcoma increases to a great extent if a person is having Paget's disease. This mainly affects the elderly and adults. This is characterized by easily breakable bones and abnormal thick bones.
  • Radiation
Many a times, there are heavy doses of radiation such as radiation therapy for treating cancers. This leads to bone cancer. This is noticed when bone cancer is developed in the bones around the radiation treatment area. The cancer development can be easily noticed when it is given to younger people. Various common sources are X-rays, cell phones and microwaves.
  • There are various anti-cancer drugs that can be used for the treatment of cancerous tumors in children. These drugs are suspected to increase the risk of a child developing bone cancer. People with metal implants used to repair fractures and have a higher incidence of developing cancer.
