Did you know a flat belly is good for your bones?

Your core is the main source of strength and stability. It is referred to as mid-section, trunk or torso. This also includes all the muscles of your abdomen, hips and lower back. Any exercise program, bone or muscle building routine should include core exercises. A strong mid-section will:

Keep you moving. Toned core muscles provide support to joints, enabling them to handle mild strains and stresses that can lead to injury.

Prevent back problems. Your trunk muscles sheathe your spine, shoring up weak points like compressed or frayed discs. These can cause debilitating pain and reduce mobility. In my haste to get bigger and stronger I had a back injury. I was doing stiff-legged deadlifts while standing on a bench. I was working to muscle failure and went for that last rep only to strain my lower back. I was sidelined for a month from that experience and ever since have been very cautious and maintained a strong mid-section.

Improve posture and balance: A strong, solid mid-section will help prevent falls as we get older. With strong bones from muscle bearing exercises fractures will be less likely to occur should you experience a fall.

In summation, you need to exercise all your body parts. Your heart with cardio exercises, your flexibility with stretches and your muscles with weights.
