Fibromyalgia is a chronic disease that causes muscles pain and fatigue. The disease adversely affects the quality of life and the person suffering undergoes severe pain. The pain involved is described as aching or burning. The pain is generally felt in the muscles, tendons and ligaments. People suffering from fibromyalgia have tender points that hurt when pressure is put on them. Headache, morning stiffness and numbness in hand and feet, sleep disturbance, anxiety, lack of stamina, irritable bladder, muscle spasms and twitching, skin sensitivities and depression are some of the early symptoms of fibromyalgia.

According to scientists, around 5 million Americans in the age group of 18 to 60 are affected by fibromyalgia. More than 80 percent people affected are women. Mostly, women between the ages of 40 to 55 suffer from this disease. There is no specific reason why more women suffer from fibromyalgia as compared to men. It is believed that women who have a family member with fibromyalgia are more likely to have fibromyalgia themselves. Even the children can be victims to this disease. Early diagnosis of this disease can help the children to recover. As a matter of fact, the cause of this incurable disease is unknown. Often this disease is linked to emotionally stressful or traumatic event, repetitive injuries, illness and rheumatoid arthritis.
