Eyelid Surgery for Depth Perception Restoration

When we consider a person who is attractive probably the first thing we see and like about them are their alert and beautiful eyes. For those of us who have had the toil and toll of years lay out on our faces, often nature has taken a large amount of the shine and sparkle from this important part of the body.

Over time, fat and wrinkles accumulate and cause dropping along the upper part of the face. Additionally, gravity has started to drag down the lower parts can cause a sagging and bagging condition that makes a person look incredibly tired and poorly rested. Unfortunately, no matter how much sleep and rest we get it is unlikely that these unattractive characteristics are going to go away.

Fortunately there is a solution that is surgical. It involves removing excess skin and fat and eliminating bagging and sagging of what is left. There is a general tightening and firming to this eyelid surgery that makes a person look younger and better rested than they have in years.

When going in for eyelid surgery it is important that any patient asks the doctor what they should expect in terms of results and likely complications or side effects of what is a rather simple procedure. Saying it is simple does not mean that there are not a number of different complications that may result from undergoing this work. For example some people are allergic to the anesthetic that is administered to them. While often eyelid surgery involves a simple injection of lidocaine or another analgesic it is not unheard of for there to be complications. In fact a large number of people are allergic to the numbing agents they are administered while having cosmetic procedures but not many people realize their malady until after they have accidentally experienced the consequences of being administered a drug that harms them.

Eyelid surgery is not always full of complications however. For many it is the only solution for what has been an embarrassing or sometimes life limiting malady. For most people having uneven skin around the eyes is little more than an uncomfortable of sometimes embarrassing situation. For many people the problems are significantly more troublesome. A droopy eye can cause difficulty in a person being able to have full use of their vision. This means that if they are tired or not feeling well they may fully use the use of one of their eyes. Most people do not realize it but if you lose the use of one eye you only lose a little more than twenty percent of your field of vision. That is because our front facing eyes are made to overlap images to allow us a very astute sense of depth perception.

For those of us who can see out of only one eye that means that while we use a relatively small amount of total field of vision we lose one hundred percent of our depth perception. This is an essential skill that allows us to operate in the world in relative safety without inadvertently straying too close to cliffs or accidentally putting our hand in the path of a saw blade.
