Eyelid Surgery Recovery: Don't Rush It
When it comes to something like eyelid surgery, you don't want to rush your recovery. Your eyes are an important to how your body functions and how you are able to get around. Don't take any chances.
The Day of the Operation:
Plan to be at the office or medical facility early. There could be paperwork that needs to be completed in advance. If you have not paid for the eyelid surgery yet, you may need to handle that final payment before the doctor begins. Either way, you need to have these things handled before your procedure can get started.
Someone needs to be there to drop you off and pick you up. Once the cosmetic surgery is completed, you will be in no condition to care for yourself, much less drive. This person is not required to wait around while you are with the doctor. It is possible to just leave a name and number so that he or she can be reached when things are done.
When you get home, you are going to need rest and probably a few painkillers. Plan ahead to make sure that there is nothing that you need to take care of when you arrive. Many people just want to go home and go to sleep. Keep your head elevated while you sleep.
The Following Few Days:
You are probably not going to be able to see clearly enough to read or even watch television. Use this time to relax and don't take on too much. If your surgeon gives you ointment for the eyelid surgery incisions, be sure to put it on as directed. You want to keep the area lubricated. If you have eye pads or any type of bandage, you do not want it to stick to the area.
You may still need pain medication and you will probably still see bruising and swelling. You may need to keep warm eye pads over the area to provide you with an extra level of comfort. Finally, if you plan to leave the house or enter into a bright area, make sure you have dark sunglasses. At some point, your doctor will need to remove the stiches.
The Next Few Weeks:
Eventually, you can get back to your normal routine. Take it slow and if at any point you start to feel pain or excessive bleeding occurs, it is time to call your doctor. During this time, the swelling and bruising will cease and you will get your first look at the change in your appearance. Remember that every day, your appearance will improve and you will be glad you chose to do an eyelid surgery.
