finding dentists can seem like a painstaking process. When looking for a dentistry office in your new city, start by seeking recommendations, then set-up preliminary interviews, and finally follow-up by checking the credentials of the office.
Getting settled in a new city can be difficult. There is so much to do. Locating amenities like grocery stores, coffee shops and salons are some of the first “to-dos” on the list. Eventually, though, you will need to find chiropractors, doctors, therapists and dentists. Finding these specialists is a necessary step in making your new city your home.
One easy way to ease into the process of finding a new set of doctors and specialists is to seek recommendations from your co-workers or any family members living in the area. If you lucky enough to have recommendations for you to look into, then your process of finding doctors and the like just got significantly quicker.
Recommendations and referrals are great because most of the work has been done for you. Your extended family, for example, has already done the groundwork of testing the doctors and dentists for quality care. They will be able to tell you what to expect when making an appointment with a particular office.
Of course, you will not always have the luxury of having family in the area. You may have no recommendations to look into. It is possible, as well, that the recommendations given are not in a convenient part of town for you. Maybe you are looking for something not far from the particular neighborhood in which you moved. Perhaps you are looking for something a little more specific than the recommendation given.
Whatever the reason for not following-up on a recommendation, you have other means of finding a good doctor, dentist or specialist. Check with your insurance group. They may have a specific list of names of quality-tested practitioners that can be passed onto you. Look over this list if you are not totally familiar with your new city, and find where each office is located.
Once you have a few names in the neighborhood you are interested in, schedule an appointment. Mention to the receptionist that you are interested in a preliminary appointment. Explain that you just moved to the city and are in the process of finding new doctors or dentists. You should feel comfortable telling her that you want to have an appointment with the dentist before scheduling any specific dental work.
Most offices should feel comfortable with this process. They understand that you have choices when it comes to your health and dental care. When you go to your appointment, ask the dentist or doctor about their care philosophies and credentials. Explain to them some of your medical or dental history. Make sure it is a good fit and that you are comfortable speaking about any issues.
Once you have done this preliminary work, and are happy with the results, schedule an appointment. You did all you could to set-up an appointment with caring and careful doctors and dentists in your new city. Now you can go out and enjoy all the exciting things the community has to offer.
