Most dentists are in their trade to make a living,Finding Free Dentists: It May Be Easier Than You Think Articles just as anyone is when they go out to find a career. Having said that, there are thousands—if not millions—of people around the country that are putting off much needed dental care because it is too expensive. It is expensive because running a dental practice is expensive. It is expensive because of various issues with health insurance. No matter the reasons, though, the fact remains that many people are forced to settle for tooth extraction and other stop gaps instead of getting the oral care they really require. If you are finding yourself in a similar situation, here are some tips on finding free care.

Your first step in finding free dentists should be to contact your health department. Ask them if there is a free dental clinic in the area that will treat low income individuals. If there are such programs, get the advice you need on being permitted into the clinic. You may be required to show proof of income (or lack thereof), you may have to make an appointment, and you need to find out exactly what it takes to be admitted.

If the health department was a dead end, you might want to consider asking various charities in your area for assistance in this endeavor. The United Way, in particular, often works with providing free and reduced cost dental care for individuals who cannot afford full price dentists. Even if they don't provide these types of services where you live, they may be able to put you in contact with someone who does or another organization that can help you out. Don't leave any stone unturned when trying to find the care you need. The goal is worth it, as no one should be without the proper health care that they require, whether dental or otherwise.

Finally, check if there is a dental school in your area. These colleges are in need of patients their up and coming dentists can work on. It may worry you a bit to put your oral health in the hands of someone who isn't experienced and is still learning, but rest assured that they are working under the close supervision and tutelage of professional, licensed dentists. Often, these services will be offered for free to the public so that the students can get the hands on experience they need to move forward in their education and training. At the very least, it's worth a call.
