Getting Lipo for the First Time

If you are getting lipo for the very first time, then you should be aware that depending on the size of the part of your body that was worked on, your recovery could take as little as a few days or as much as a few months.

You may experience some pain and discomfort after your procedure. This discomfort should pass and until it does, you can get some relief from the prescriptions that your surgeon will provide you with. You can also walk around to help you get a grip on the pain. Many patients are able to start moving around normally and resume some of their usual activities without much discomfort within a week after their procedure.

You may also notice some drainage from your incisions. This is completely normal. This is why it recommended that you avoid baths and being submerged in water. Take showers for at least a week after your lipo procedure. Drainage helps to speed up recovery and healing which will cause your bruising and swelling to subside.

Keep in mind that swelling can take some time to completely go away. The larger the area that was worked on the longer it will take for the swelling to go away. At first glance the skin may seem saggy and loose. This is normal and the loose skin will get tighter over time. Most patients see optimal results within the first six months after their procedure.

You should continue to pay close attention to your body after your lipo, in particular your incisions. You need to be on the lookout for signs of infection. You should make and keep several follow up appointments with the surgeon who performed your surgery so they can keep an eye on your healing as well.
