The bacteria bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae cause Gonorrhoea. It is an infection transmitted sexually. Other sites where the bacteria infect are eyes and the throat.  This spreads while we are having sexual intercourse. Also it can get transmitted from the mother to New born children. This bacteria also causes Conjunctivitis.

The normal period for the bacteria to infect is around 10 to 20 days. The majority of the symptoms start occurring by the fifteenth days after getting infected. Some people can become asymptomatic for life. In women Vaginal discharge may occur,Gonorrhoea: Causes, Symptoms and Treatments. Articles projectile urinating, difficulty while urinating, bleeding after having sex and menstrual bleeding happens off the cycle.

The appearance of the cervix is anywhere between normal to extreme with pus. Male hormones get produced more during this time. Pus is also formed because of the infection of urethra.  The examination of the cervictis and the urethritis supports the diagnosis of gonorrhoea. Both the locations are infected in most patients. The infection gets transmitted through oral, vaginal or anal sex without any safe sex practices.

Some of the lesser Symptoms are pain or cramps, fever, vomiting which indicate the pelvic inflammatory disease development. Men can complain of pus discharge and also pain while urinating. If the gonorrhoea is left untreated it may lead to prostate glands, urethral structure and epididymis in men. The most common complication in worm is the pelvic inflammatory disease. A much serious infection in the uterus can take the patient to infertility.

Some of the antibiotics used to treat this infection are Ampicillin, Amoxicillin, Cefixime, Azithromycin, Cefoxitin, Ceftriaxone, Cefpodoxime, Ciprofloxacin, and Ofloxacin. Any one of the drugs should be given as one dose.  Some of the drugs cannot be used during pregnancy All the partners in sexual act are referred to be checked to prevent unnecessary spread of this disease. Also prevents the patient from getting infected again with gonorrhoea. Also other sexual disease should be screened n patients.

For rectal gonorrhoea treatment we can not use penicillin. The reason been the bacteria in the rectum destroys penicillin. Also for the throat infection of gonorrhoea the treatment is not that much effective. The treatment of gonorrhoea infections in the US is done at family practices. There is no federal system for sexual treatment. Fluoroquinolones are frequently used for treating gonorrhoea because they a highly efficient, readily available and one dose is enough since 1993.

From 2000, Fluoroquinolones are no longer recommended as they have caused some infection in Pacific Islands and Asia. Since 2004 it is banned to be used for treating gonorrhoea in US. In adults and adolescents gonorrhoea is successfully cured by using Antibiotics. Some gonorrhoea strains are increasingly becoming drug resistant in many parts of the world.

Treating Gonorrhoea successfully is becoming a challenge nowadays. The medication prescribed for gonorrhoea should be taken correctly and completely.  The infection is stopped by the medication but the damage done caused by gonorrhoea cannot be repaired. The disease can recur if the people have sex with persons who are infected. We should return to the doctor for re-evaluation if the symptoms are present even after treatment.
