Gyencomastia – How it Affects You

When a young boy has the chest of a girl it can be detrimental to his psyche. Gyencomastia is just such a condition that can appear in adolescence and never go away.

There is not much more embarrassing for a man than to look like he needs a bra. It’s emasculating to him. Sometimes it’s fat that is playing a part in his excess baggage. Other times there something far more wrong here than just excess breast tissue. The gentleman in question may suffer from gynecomastia, a condition that can be extremely embarrassing for any gentleman suffering from it.

Gynecomastia is a condition in men that occurs from the abnormal development of large mammary gland. This development results in breast enlargement resembling what you would normally see on women. While there is now known cause of this condition, it is believed to be an imbalance of sex hormones in males.

Often this condition presents itself in adolescent males and if it is not due to obesity the condition may reverse itself within a couple of years. Occasionally this condition is the side effect of some drugs. If you have taken any drugs with this listed as a side effect you should speak with your doctor.

There are several classifications of gynecomastia. The puffy nipple is probably the most common form. This is caused by glandular tissue accumulation concentrated under the areola. The adolescent is congenital or hereditaryScience Articles, and affects about 30 to 60% of all boys. While some of these will go away in time others do not.

Pure Glandular is often found in bodybuilders that use steroids. Then there is the pseudogynecomsastia which is composed of adipose tissue instead of being a glandular problem.
There are a couple treatments options to remove the problem area. First is a selective estrogen receptor modulator medication. This is supposed to help combat the glandular issue that the male is having.

Unfortunately if it is not caught with in the first two to three years the tissue will remain. After this small window of opportunity the tissue often hardens and makes gynecomastia almost a permanent feature in the boy’s life.

This condition can also be treated by having surgery. The physician can go in and removed the excess glandular tissue. In the case of the pseudogyneocmastia patients the tissue that is removed won’t be glandular but adipose. The surgeon will reshape the breast to be more in line with what one would expect on a male and remove any excess skin as well. Prior to surgery the patient should be tested for other problems as this condition might be a signal to another more life threatening condition.

Gynecomastia is a treatable condition that affects men of all ages. Even though it often first presents in adolescence it has been known to appear later in life. Consult with your physician to ensure that the only problem is glandular and there are no other underlying conditions.
