It is important to know that plumbing operates on two aspects, the incoming water and the outgoing sewage and water waste. Incoming usually has little problems unless there is something added to it, like a new water outlet in a bathroom or a new faucet. The pipes in which water passes going in to the house are usually located in the basement or outside of the house. More pipes can be added for a new bathroom or faucet as long as these are added after the water meter. As for sewage and waste, it is important that gravity is considered for their disposal. The sewage line for any city is usually located underneath, not only for cleaner views but also to facilitate better and faster disposal. For homes with basements, a sump pump may be necessary to help with waste and water disposal. Turning off the water main before making any changes to the pipes is recommended, because water damage may occur due to leaks and burst pipes. During winter, burst pipes can be avoided by taking extra precaution with all the piping located outside of the house.
