Diabetics should take the beverages that do not shoot up their blood sugar and contain a lot of nutrients. Some such health drinks for diabetics are:

  • Tea - This beverage contains a lot of antioxidants as well as flavonoids. You can have tea without sugar all through your day and it would not cause any problem with your sugar level. You might want to add a few drops of artificial sweetener to your tea if having unsweetened tea is not easy for you. You also need to get rid of the fat in the tea that comes through milk. To ensure that, prepare tea with skimmed milk.
  • Juice - Do not drink packaged juice. Fresh fruit juice is needed if you want to have a health drink. If having fruits is healthy, taking out the juice can be just as healthy. Apart from controlling your diabetes, it also renders other health benefits such as glowing skin. Make sure that you drink one glass of juice every day but you only need to make sure that sodium, carbohydrates and sugar content of the juice is not high.
  • Milk - You need to be very cautious when you take drink as a remedy for diabetes. There are many varieties of milk with different effects on the condition of diabetes. Toned or skimmed milk is the general advice for diabetics as they contain less fat and no fat respectively. Soy milk is a very good option for diabetics as it has healthy fats known as polyunsaturated fatty acids and does not contain lactose. Camel milk can be useful for people with type 1 diabetes as it brings down the level of insulin in the body. Diabetics can also have almond milk as it controls the blood sugar level and keeps the amount of insulin needed by the body in check.
  • Some soft drinks - In this category are included lemonade, energy drinks and sports drinks. As the sweet content of these drinks is not too high, you can take them in moderation.
  • Water - It is the ideal beverage for diabetics as there is no question of calories, but all the health benefits such as hydration after workout and detoxification of the body results from drinking it.
