So far the government has not managed to get into the health care business, but with the rising jobless numbers, people are finding themselves in need of health insurance coverage and no where to turn to for help. There already exists government programs that do assist some people struggling with no health insurance, but for those in the age group of 25 to 50, and receiving the least help, simply because the category they fall into makes them ineligible for government assistance for their health care needs unless of course they are pregnant or handicapped.

There already exists government programs that do assist some people struggling with no health insurance, but for those in the age group of 25 to 50, and receiving the least help, simply because the category they fall into makes them ineligible for government assistance for their health care needs unless of course they are pregnant or handicapped. These however, are generally the only exceptions.

The importance of knowing that if you are unfortunate enough to lose your job and the insurance coverage benefits that came with it, you will most likely have to depend on your own pockets to pay for your own health insurance coverage if your budget and finances will allow for it. You could however, be one of the lucky ones who can take advantage of the COBRA program coverage.

Essentially COBRA is a way of extending out your employer based insurance plan even after your employment has ended and by law all larger companies are required to notify you about this within 30 days of leaving the company. Of course, by picking up this type of insurance you will also be picking up the entire cost of premiums as any reimbursement by the company will be completely gone when employment ends. The government is providing some assistance in making payments on a COBRA plan for those who are currently unemployed but in many cases this cost is still more than an unemployed individual can bear.

As it turns out, there are other more affordable options than the COBRA plan that are available such as a discount medical card and will help make at least some medical health care affordable through a catastrophic plan or short term insurance coverage plan as the best option to secure. Regardless of the choice you choose you will enjoy the benefits of being covered during unemployment for a period of time.

Unemployment is devastating and something that many families are dealing with these days. When it comes to taking care of health insurance there are many options for the younger members of your family but when it comes to coverage for the adults in your family you may just have to get by with minimal health insurance coverage until you can obtain another job that offers benefits. This is a reality that many American's are facing and it is unfortunately that this is what life in the U.S. has come to.
