When you find out your child has a problem with his or her ears, it is important to start teaching your child sign language. Small children can use signs before they can speak anyway, so if a child cannot hear then learning the sign language will just put them ahead. When it is time for your child to start talking, they will not talk like you do since they cannot hear the sounds. You and their helpers can work with them on speaking and signing. Some people use this type of communication along with aids so that they are using every possible means available. Having a child that cannot hear well will be a difficult adjustment, but by catching it early and taking them to a hearing center for testing, you likely saved you and your child a large amount of grief. The more you adjust; it is likely the more your child will as well.
