Helping Children Stop Teeth Grinding

The easiest way to help your children stop grinding their teeth at night is to diagnose the reasons behind why they are doing it. There are many reasons as to why someone, especially a child, will start grinding their teeth at night and there are just as many ways that you can help them stop.

What you should do is start out with the mildest form of action, which is usually inaction. If your child is complaining about sore jaws or tooth pain, then you will need to have this checked out by a professional, though.

You can wait and see if they will stop on their own. Sometimes a child can become stressed out because of things happening at school, like that big test on Friday that they are worried they won’t pass or being picked for a sports program. If anything like this is happening in their lives, then you can wait and see if the grinding stops after that test or whatever is causing them stress.

If that doesn’t work, then you might want to check your child for pinworms. Grinding your teeth is a common symptom of pinworms in children and, if they are showing any signs of this, you should use a natural herbal remedy to take care of them.

If you have gone through all of these steps and there doesn’t seem to be an end to the teeth grinding, then a trip to the dentist is in order to see if any tooth damage has occurred. Your dentist can recommend different types of mouth guards that your child may have to wear at night when they go to sleep to help the grinding to stop. Some of these can be fairly expensive so ask your dentist if there is an over the counter brand that they would recommend.

There are many ways that grinding teeth will show up in a child’s life, but as parents, it is your duty to make sure that you do everything you can to help them through it. If you take action right away to narrow down what the causes are, even by doing nothing at first, you will be able to resolve this issue for your child.

Teeth grinding may not seem like a major problem to some parents, but it can end up causing severe dental issues later on in lifeArticle Submission, especially if they begin to chip their enamel while they are grinding their teeth at night. Keep a close eye on them to help.
