The occurrence of hemorrhoids are sometimes accorded an undeserving secret status,Hemorrhoids Articles and spoken about in hushed tones. It is either seen as being embarrassing, or something that no-one else should be aware of. In different parts of the world it is also commonly referred to as “piles”.

So what is the medical explanation for this ailment? Hemorrhoid tissues contain veins that are located in the wall of the rectum and anus and may develop inflammation, bleeding, or thrombosis. It may even become enlarged and protrude outside the anus canal, in which case it is referred to as external hemorrhoids.

It has been established that the main cause of hemorrhoids is the application of excessive pressure on the veins within the rectal and pelvic areas. In the case where an individual strains to pass a stool, then the increased pressure will gradually cause veins in the tissue to swell and stretch, thus eventually leading to hemorrhoids.

Irrespective as to whether diarrhoea or constipation is experienced, the strainful effect will eventually cause enhanced pressure on the veins present within the anal canal.

Hemorrhoid symptoms come across as severe itching in the anal area and often accompanied by bleeding that takes place during a bowel movement. For sufferers of this often painful disease, the following treatments and remedies can be considered;

  • Follow a balanced diet that is rich in fibre, fruit, and vegetables and drink enough water to assist the nutritional process, thus preventing a dry stool that needs to be forced out.
  • Use anal creams of a herbal nature to relief discomfort and itchiness.
  • In severe cases, surgery is an option that can provide long term results as compared to the treatments above.

Hemorrhoid sufferers should exercise their options with care, but nothing beats the old traditional methods of just simply sticking to healthy nutritional habits.
