Before getting into Hep C Treatment Cost,Hep C Treatment Cost Articles It's important that everybody be up to speed in regards to the development of some of the HCV treatments.

Some people have carried the hep c Virus for several years and didn't know they had it. I am one of those people.

The virus was transmitted to me in 1976 and I didn't know it until 2006. I carried the Hepatitis C virus for more than forty years, with absolutely no symptoms.

I started researching the treatment cost and my available options immediately after I found out I was a carrier.

What I found out, is that in June of 2002, The N I H , Consensus Development ConferencePanel, got together. They convened in order to review what were then the most recent developments regarding the treatment of patients who carried the hepatitis C virus. (AKA) HCV patients.

Prior to this conference. the standard of care for Chronic HCV was Interferon therapy.

However, there have been several therapeutic advances. In particular, Combination therapy that included Ribavirin and the introduction of Pegylated Interferon alphas.

This led to re-examining of approaches to management and treatment.

At this point, the Consensus Panel concluded that the highest response rates in patients with chronic Hepatitis C were achieved with the combination of Ribavirin and pegylated interferon alpha. This treatment became the new standard of care.

Hep C treatment Options

It was concluded by the N I H Consensus Conference in 2002 , That pegylated interferon alpha Plus Ribavirin was more effective than Interferon therapy.

It was also supported by large pivotal trials, that the combination of pegylated interferon alpha along with ribavirin produced higher response rates in patients with chronic HCV.

The above-mentioned combination was more effective than just interferon therapy, as well as interferon-ribavirin combination therapy or just pegylated interferon alpha alone. Ribavirin alone is Not an effective treatment for Hep C.

More recent progressions in the battle against Hep C have taken the chronic liver disease from a place where at one time, the best you could do was hope to control it or slow it's progression, To a place now where it can be completely cured for the majority of individuals who have it.
