Even though most people don't have the first clue on what causes a cold sore,Herpes & Cold Sores - How They Relate Articles they do know that there is a relationship between genital herpes and cold sores. The sores on and around your lips are caused by a virus living in your body known as HSV-1. Herpes is caused by a very similar virus called HSV-2. They behave in very similar manners. You'll find that you'll have times where you have outbreaks and other times where you'll be completely fine. It's just the nature of the way the virus works. I wanted to take the time to talk to you about herpes, cold sores and how they relate to each other.

Both the HSV-1 and HSV-2 virus have no cure. I know that sounds scary to most people, but it's the truth. The viruses aren't really that bad though. For example, HSV-1 has infected about 80% of people, so most people have the virus in them. Basically these two viruses can't be cured because they hide in the nerve cells of our body. When your body's defenses fight a virus, they'll destroy the infected cells, but when the virus infects nerve cells you can't destroy them without causing major damage to the body. This is why there is no cure for the viruses.

There are specific things for herpes and cold sores that you can do to stop them from occurring. This is a virus, so your immune system is what prevents them. The stronger your immune system, than your body will force the virus to live dormant. You can achieve a better immune system by eating properly and exercising on a regular basis. Living a healthy lifestyle is the key to a strong immune system and avoiding these outbreaks.
