Home Remedies for Insomnia

Here are some simple home remedies that may help you beat your problem with insomnia.

It’s late at night and you’re still tossing and turning. You constantly look at the clock, only to see that another half hour has passed and you’re still awake. You worry that you will never get to sleep and that your lack of sleep will make it hard to get through your day tomorrow. If this is a common pattern for you, you may be suffering from the symptoms of insomnia.

Your answer may be as simple as pulling out a few items and setting up some routines. Yes, there are a few home remedies for insomnia. Like anything, we’re all individuals and different things work well for different people. Try a few of these out and see if they help you with your problem

  • Try having a light snack before bedtime. Certain food work better for some people than others. You may have to experiment to see what works for you. Things to try? Warm milk, apple, strawberries, a piece of bread with peanut butter.

  • Is your environment conducive to sleeping? Be sure you block out the light. If you have a lot of noise coming in from outside, consider ear plugs. Make sure the room temperature is right. Many people like to watch TV to fall asleep but the light and brain stimulation may actually be keeping you awake.

  • Develop a bedtime routine. This will train your mind to slow down for the day and get ready for sleep. Depending on how much time you can allow, it can start with a warm bath. Take a few minutes in the tub to just relax. You could do a few yoga poses that have been shown to help induce sleep or practice some relaxation techniques.
