Liposuction has given many individuals a second chance at having a trim, slim figure. While diet and exercise are the only ways to get to an ideal weight,How Long Do The Effects of Liposuction Last? Articles they are not always enough to get that beach body you may have been dreaming of. Even with a good regimen of weight lifting, there may be nothing you can do to firm up those areas that have been filled with too many fat cells to shrink back to their original shape. People turn to plastic surgery in these instances to do what nature cannot. And, in many cases, this surgery does just the trick. But how long do the effects last?

First of all, it is important to understand why a procedure such as liposuction needs to exist. Many people mistakenly assume that it is like a free ticket to being thin. Well, not free by any means, but an easy way out. This is far from the truth.

This surgery is not designed to make a fat person skinny. It is designed to take a person who has done everything they can to lose weight, yet they are left with pockets of fat that simply won’t go away. These people are often right in the zone when it comes to their BMI. Some might even dip to the underweight category if they were to continue losing. But yet, they still have areas of fat that don’t look good in a bikini (or swimsuit, or naked, etc.)

This happens because our fat cells are placed throughout our bodies in unique ways. It could easily be said that no two people are entirely alike when it comes to where they gain weight and at what pace. There is another factor as well.

Fat cells can both grow and multiply as a person starts gaining weight. However, when they lose weight, those same fat cells only shrink. The new ones don’t go away. They stay there. This makes it extremely difficult to get that rock hard body you may have dreamed of, or once had in high school. When it comes to this point, liposuction (which removes the fatty tissue and cells for good) may be the only answer.

So how long do the effects last? It all depends on you. There is nothing in the liposuction procedure that is going to prevent you from gaining all the weight back. However, there is certainly nothing in the surgery that is going to cause you to do it, either. In fact, since there are now fewer fat cells in the area that was targeted for surgery, you may see that those problem areas only grow in size the way your other areas do. There may be an increased balance that anyone who has always complained about their “fat thighs” (buttocks, arms, etc.) will appreciate. Eat right, exercise, and watch your weight, and you should be able to enjoy the effects of your surgery for a long time to come.
