In the United States 40% of the people over age 40 have high blood pressure or hypertension. This can greatly increase the chances of a heart attack or stroke. In some places in the world only 1% of the people have high blood pressure. These places all have something in common. I will talk about this later in the article.

There are many stories of people eating or consuming something that lowered their blood pressure. For example the food with the most interactions with drugs is grapefruit. Grapefruit lowers high blood pressure and so any medication that lowers high blood pressure should not be taken with it. Orange juice lowers high blood pressure. If you start looking foods up,How to Naturally Lower High Blood Pressure Articles you will find that most fruits or vegetables are said to do this.

Of course you can do this (lower high blood pressure) by exercising or by losing excess weight. But consider the following. Say that one guy never exercises and is obese. So he takes a drug or medication to lower his high blood pressure and it works. He still is obese and never exercises. Then another person has the same results but not by taking a medication but by exercising and losing excess weight.

Are both of these people in the same health since they have normal blood pressure? Of course not! So you want to accomplish this without taking medications (drugs). The medications have many bad side effects. The side effects of exercise and losing weight are good side effects like being much healthier.

Also instead of taking a medication to lower blood pressure you can try an herb that is a food that is good for health. For example you can take fresh ginger, instead of ginger snap cookies, and grate some of it and make it into a tea and drink it. One guy who did this said that his blood pressure went from 174/104 to 132/82. That is a huge improvement. Also ginger has good side effects like preventing motion sickness, helping your liver, preventing joint pain, preventing cancer and osteoporosis and more.

Some say that there is so much conflicting information about what to eat (diet) that they do not know what is healthy. It is not that hard to figure out. You do not need to be a rocket scientist, like Elon Musk, to figure that out. To eat healthier foods just eat unprocessed foods that are made by God or nature instead of eating processed foods made by people that want you to be fat and addicted to food so you will buy more food. This can make a huge improvement in health. Also salt is not a food. It is a chemical that causes you to eat more and is bad for health. So there is no salt in unprocessed foods. None, at all.

Now here is the main cause of high blood pressure-- too much sodium and too little potassium. To be more exact if you consume 5 times as much potassium as sodium then that is the main way to lower high blood pressure. Also even if it does not do the above, it greatly reduces your chances of having a heart attack or stroke. This is the thing that the areas around the world have in common where only 1% of the people have high blood pressure.

Salt is 40% sodium so a teaspoon of salt has more sodium than a hundred pounds of unprocessed food. Plant foods like fruits and vegetables tend to have about 20 times the amount of potassium to sodium. Just about all plant foods contain both sodium and potassium. WebMD has an article that says that if you start smoking (not a typo) and stop consuming salt then you will be healthier and live longer. More specifically it says that the benefits of reducing salt consumption is as good as quitting smoking.

Many medical doctors want to make salt a regulated substance so they can regulate or limit the amount of salt that can be put in foods. Doctors mostly make money from sick people but dead people make no money for them. So they are concerned that salt is killing too many people. WebMD says "Cutting U.S. salt intake by just half a teaspoon a day would prevent up to 92,000 deaths, 99,000 heart attacks, and 66,000 strokes -- a benefit as big as smoking cessation." Note that most strokes cause people to become disabled.

Since salt causes people to retain water, it causes them to be more overweight. Since salt is not a food, it has no calories. Water weight in the body looks worse than fat. Beyonce did the lemonade diet (that has no salt in it) for 10 days and she lost 20 pounds. Most of that weight was water weight. She did that for a movie where she had to play her character at ages that were 20 years apart. Make-up cannot change how heavy you look.
