It is known that some people are prone to getting cold sores while other people are lucky enough not to ever experience them. A lot of the time when people get cold sores they don't exactly know why they have gotten the cold sores. There are some a lot of known facts about cold sores and how they come about.  Stress is a number one factor of why most people get cold sores.  Both emotional and physical stress actually lower your immune system.  This allows the cold sore virus to get out of bed and attack when you least expect it to.  If you are prone to colds or other upper respiratory tract infection,  you may be prone to cold sores.  This particular type of cold sore doctors refer to as fever blisters.

If you aren't sick and if you don't have hormone changes a lot, then you could get a cold sore from getting hurt.  Any type of trauma or injury to the skin that is around your lips aids cold sores.  Injury also means dry lips or cracked lips.  It can also be caused from the injury your skin received from cosmetic surgery, chemical peels or laser therapy.
 
As you can see, there are a number of factors that go into cold sores.  The way to prevent getting cold sores is to stay away from what causes them.  If you go to a tanning booth, get some lip gloss that contains sunscreen.  If you are going through changes, try to include some stress relief tricks in your daily schedule.  Slow down and have some fun.  Eat healthy and drink water.  Water is a great way to avoid any visits from an unwanted cold sore.
