There are three basic treatments for sleep disorders. They include medications, somatic treatments and psychological treatments. They can work for stress-induced sleep disorders, pain induced sleep problems or psychological issues underlying sleep problems, including anxiety and depression.
Many times the doctor might prescribe sleeping medication for sleep problems. These are just temporary measures and do not address the underlying issues. Sleep disorder clinics have discovered that psychotherapeutic tools that are more effective than pills. They address the root of the issue and make taking medications less helpful or necessary.
