If you are frequent traveller then you are probably familiar with the travel health insurance. This type of insurance may have crossed your way but you never really thought about it because you are probably thinking that it is not needed. True, a travel health insurance is not a necessity. However, before you make that crucial decision there are several things that you need to consider first.

First off, what kind of travelling are you into? Are you an adventurer? Do you like travelling to exotic and dangerous places? If the answer is yes, then you do need a travel insurance.

Another thing consider, do you have pre-existing medical condition? Are you older than 65 years old? Again, if the answer is yes then you are one of those people who need a travel health insurance.

Last but not the least, are you capable of paying for health care in other countries? If the answer is leaning to know, then once again you need a travel insurance.

What is a travel health insurance? This is the type of health insurance made to cover medical expenses in case you get into an accident, get sick, or are injured while overseas. However, this type health insurance is only valid for a short period and can only be acquired when you go on a trip especially overseas.

However, before you rush and purchase a travel health insurance you might want to scrutinize your current health insurance first. There are insurance companies that are willing to pay for your medical expenses overseas as long as it is customary and reasonable. In addition to that, you also need to consider whether your insurance policy covers evacuation from one country to another or not.

In case evacuation is not covered which usually costs around $50,000, then you might want to back your current health insurance with a travel health insurance.
