IVF stands for In Vitro Fertilisation. IVF is one of the most common assisted reproductive technologies used for infertile couples. Earlier IVF used to be a rare term in India. But,IVF treatment in India Articles with the advancement in technology and education, it is now next to the door thing. In fact, there are many clinics in India that have high success rates and good ratings while treating infertility using IVF.

So, what exactly is IVF?

In-Vitro fertilization (IVF) is common in infertility treatment. Firstly, the ovaries are stimulated to develop several follicles by the use of "fertility drugs." Ultrasound tracking of follicle number and growth along with blood hormone levels decides when a single injection matures the eggs. The fertility doctor then uses a small needle to remove the eggs from the ovaries, while in a specialized laboratory the woman undergoes light anaesthesia and fertilizes them with sperm. Upon fertilization, the eggs are processed and mature into embryos. The specialist may transfer the embryo to the uterus 3 to 5 days later.

When to use IVF treatment?

IVF treatments are used to treat different causes of infertility. Here are these causes of infertility that can be treated with IVF -

  • Fallopian Tubes - In some women, the fallopian tubes are damaged or blocked which cannot be treated with the help of surgery. In these cases, one may use IVF treatment.
  • Endometriosis - Endometriosis happens when an endometrium-named tissue that lines your uterus develops beyond your uterus. In these cases, as well, IVF can be used.
  • Ovulation issues - If you are not ovulating regularly or even not ovulating, then, IVF treatment is the right choice for you.
  • Female infertility - This is because of the advancement in age. Advancement in age results in the poor quality of eggs produced. Hence, IVF is again used here.
  • Male infertility - Low sperm count or low sperm quality can lead to infertility in males. This can be easily treated with the help of IVF.

Problems associated with IVF treatment in India

IVF treatments in India and for that matter all around the world are not complications free. Some of the complications one may have to face during IVF treatment are -

  • Ectopic pregnancy- In an ectopic pregnancy, the eggs are implanted anywhere outside the uterus but most commonly in the fallopian tubes of the woman.
  • Multiple pregnancies- IVF treatment may result in multiple pregnancies which furthers the danger of premature birth or low weight of the babies.

Who needs egg freezing?

If a woman does not wish to have a baby currently due to personal or professional reasons, she can use infertility services to freeze her eggs. In this way, she is blocking her biological clock and can enjoy the motherhood even after years, when she is not

anymore producing fertile eggs.  This is known as preservative infertility treatments and popular among women who wish to extend family later stages.  It is also useful for those women who are diagnosed with cancer and before opting for radiation and chemotherapy, they can freeze eggs and use it later to become a mother.

  1. Women who are not ready to start a family yet, but their biological clock is ticking fast. It is advised to look out for egg freezing options before or by 35 years of age as after that egg quality and the number drops drastically.
  2. Women who yet to find their ideal partner and wish to wait for him.
  3. Women who are about to go cancer treatment like chemotherapy or radiation therapy.  Such treatments are known to reduce fertility.  So, so freezing eggs can preserve eggs without hampering the fertility of women.
