Stress is a common reaction of the mind when faced with situations that it cannot handle. Stress is often temporary and once the demands are met, it passes naturally. But in some people, when the stressful conditions continue over prolonged period, stress can cause problems that need stress management skills to get over. While cases that are serious require help from professionals, others can manage by following the stress management methods themselves. Most of the skills described below are easy to follow and require very little effort.

When you spend most of your day at work, you will have to find a way to remain stress free.

  • Deep breathing is one of the most effective ways of calming oneself down. If you find yourself stressed out, take a moment to take about ten deep breaths. This is one of the easiest ways of clearing one’s head.

  • PMR stands for Progressive Muscular Relaxation and is a method used for relaxing tensed muscles. A person first tightens the muscles and holds it for sometime. After which, the muscles are relaxed slowly until they are as loose as possible.

  • Occasional meditation sessions can also help you. Meditation helps you to relax your body as well as you mind by focusing your mind on your breathing or on any one thought.

You cannot manage stress like the flick of a switch, it comes with practice. One of the most important things is to put a limit to a lot of things.

  • The amount of work you commit yourself to and the amount of time you spend at the office should have a certain limit.

  • Since large credit card bills can be stressful, limit your expenditure. Spend only what you have.

  • A balanced life should be planned out. Plan out how you will keep some time aside every day to exercise or have some fun.

Spend some time to take a breath and plan out your day before you start working in the morning. Leaving your home early will help you remain calm in bad traffic. Avoid people who irritate you and forgive those who keep trying to put you down. Pent up feelings can also lead to stress. Having a friend who you can share everything with is also a wonderful way to remain upbeat about things.
