Liposuction is known as a good way to lose some fat from your body,Learn Why Liposuction Is Not for You If You Need to Lose Lots of Weight Articles but it should never be thought of as a way to lose several pounds. Not only will this expectation result in disappointment, but it could also harm you. Consider the main reasons to look elsewhere if you just want to weigh less.

One of the main reasons that you should not plan to use liposuction as a weight loss method is that you will only lose a few pounds from it, in most cases. This is especially if you only get it performed on one or two areas of your body. Even if you get this surgery done on a few areas, few people lose more than about ten pounds. In fact, you should know that shortly after the operation, you may notice that the number on the scale may even increase if you decided to opt for the surgery that pumps a lot of fluid into the incision. This is called the tumescent method, and since it involves more liquid than the dry method, you will need to allow some time for it to slowly leak out a few days after the operation. Therefore, do not be surprised if your weight barely changes or even increases afterward, even if only temporarily.

Plus, it should be obvious that any weight you lose will be from a specific area, not overall your entire body. So while losing up to ten pounds might sound great, you will not see the same benefit as you would had you lost it healthily through a good diet and exercise. The whole point of liposuction is to remove fat from one part of the body for aesthetic reasons, as this area may have stubborn flab that will not go away. This is great if you are happy with what you weigh overall, and how other body parts look, but can never seem to get rid of the flab in one area on your own. If you are unhappy with how your whole shape is, though, then liposuction may not be able to help.

If you are overweight according to your doctor, you should especially be wary of undergoing this surgery. You are advised to be both near your ideal weight and healthy in general for this surgery, neither of which applies to you if you are overweight or obese. There are other options for you, such as stomach stapling, if this is the case, so ask a surgeon about those methods instead. This is for your own good, as you may not heal properly or even make it through surgery if you are considered unhealthy, especially if you have heart problems as a result of being overweight.

If your doctor promises that you will drop several pounds due to this operation, or claims that it is a good way to reduce your weight overall, you should choose another practitioner. This is because such claims are usually false and can lead to disappointment with the results. On the other hand, if your ideal outcome is the loss of flab in one area, you will probably be happy in the end.
