A lower body lift is a surgical procedure that tightens loose skin in the lower body region,Liposuction And Lower Body Lifts Articles including the buttocks, hips and thighs. Extra skin and its underlying fat tissue is excised; the remaining tissue is then sutured in a suspended position, lifting and smoothing the entirety of the area. This procedure is often combined with liposuction, the surgical process by which fat is extracted from the body via a cannula, or suction tube, for optimum results in lessening fullness and padding in the lower body. The cannula may be aided by a mechanical pump. This is known as "suction-assisted liposuction," or SAL, and if said pump has a motor attached it is "power-assisted," or PAL. Additionally, laser technology can be used to melt and liquefy the fat before the operation in order to make removal easier.

The lower body lift surgery begins in the back section of the body, requiring repositioning during the operation to address concerns in the hips and outer thighs. An incision is made, preferably in a naturally-occurring crease as to detract from later scarring, and all loose skin below said incision is removed. At this point, if liposuction technology is being used, it will utilized and fatty tissue will be suctioned out. The residual skin in the buttocks and thigh area is then gently pulled upward to a superior position. Finally, the surgeon will close the incision in multiple layers over drains, as so to minimize the possibility of stretching or swelling. This concludes the anterior, or back, section of the surgery. After this, the frontal portion will begin; during this stage, an abdominoplasty (or tummy tuck) may be performed to flatten and contour the abdomen. If an abdominoplasty is unnecessary or inadvisable, another option would be to perform an inner thigh lift.

Strenuous activity, lifting and bending over are not recommended in the immediate post-operative period. If it is possible to rest quietly with the affected areas in an elevated position, you should do so. The Although recovery time varies greatly among individual patients, in many instances patients are able to return to normal activities such as works within ten days of the procedure.

Liposuction with a lower body lift is a potent combination in that it allows the patient to specifically target areas of fat that risk appearing disproportionately large or bulging after the more comprehensive body lift procedure. It can allow the surgeon to precisely concentrate on problem areas, as well as smoothing nearby sections of localized fat and refining the intermediate contours between surgically-affected areas and the rest of the body. As with any surgical procedure, it is wise to speak with a doctor before deciding on one course of treatment that's right for you.
