Liposuction is a common cosmetic surgery procedure that many people have undergone to achieve weight loss and a slimmer body. Many people are also contemplating undergoing this method of losing their body fat but may have second thoughts about it because they are not sure about its safety and what the results may bring. The reality of it is that this operation is safe as long as the parameters are followed by both the doctor and the patient. The risks that come with it are not as high as other major operations and there are numerous ways to determine how prone to a risk a patient may be.

Risks and Problems
Some of the risks that a person who wishes to undergo liposuction may be exposed to have something to do with underlying diseases and sicknesses that the individual may already have. Heart disease can cause the body to react differently to some medications and drugs that are administered before the commencement of the surgery. Anesthesia and other forms of pain relievers and drugs that can render the individual blissfully unconscious can have a reaction in the circulatory system of the person. The anxiety and tension of undergoing such a procedure can also elevate the heart rate of the person making it difficult for the doctor to start with the procedure.

An elevated heart rate can hinder the start or maybe even stop the operation from even starting. Some doctors are known to actually prefer to postpone the event if there are some problems which can not bode well. Smokers and those who imbibe in alcohol routinely or too much can expect the doctor to request a halt to drinking and smoking for several weeks before going through the liposuction operation. Food supplements and some other medications that the individual may be taking can also have an effect on the surgery. The risk of taking out too much fat can also occur and it is something that lies entirely in the hands of the doctor.

Other problems may not occur during the surgery but may crop up during the recovery period. The least of all these is scarring which is actually a minimal possibility because the incisions are mainly small. Other possible scenarios include deformities which may occur if the doctor did not even out the vacuuming of the fat. Loss of sensitivity can also occur if the nerve ends are damaged during the liposuction event.

There is little that can be done when this happens but the possibility of this occurring is minimal since the surgeons make sure that they are careful in handling the rod like instrument used to vacuum the fat. Some patients may be dissatisfied with the results because they expected to have a lean and trim look immediately. Swelling and bruising can hinder the end result from manifesting for the first few days. The end results may be more obvious after several weeks.
