Little known Loudon Wainwright III played a gynecologist in the 2007 Judd Apatow hit,Loudon Wainwright Played a Hilarious Gynecologist Articles Knocked Up. The mega hit film starring Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl portrayed two young adults who met one another at a dance club, went home together, had sex, and inadvertently became pregnant together. As a result, Heigl's character, Alison Scott, a famous television interviewer, is forced to put her career on hold to deal with the consequences of a bad choice she made one night. Nevertheless, the future father, played by Seth Rogan, unexpectedly steps up and promises to take on the role as a father. Heigl state that she had problems with this in that part the humorous aspect of the film focused on the "ridiculousness" of being a father outside of the "ridiculousness" of wedlock, though in the end she felt she made a successful film.

Indeed she did. The gynecologist in the film, played by Loudon Wainwright, helped thrust the actor back onto the silver screen since his small role in Elizabethtown and The 40 Year Old Virgin. Before these films, Loudon Wainwright had appeared in Jacknife, 29 Days, Undeclared, Big Fish, The Aviator, and For Your Consideration. For those who might not know who Wainwright is, the artist is a longtime folk musician who has made over 20 albums. He is father of legendary Rufus Wainwright and his sisters, Martha Wainwright and Lucy Wainwright Roche. He is also the father of Joe Henry, a legendary and award-winning singer-songwriter who now produces music.

Fans will remember Wainwright's most recent performance as a gynecologist in Knocked Up in which two songs by the performer appeared within the film and during the credits. Making a wonderfully funny appearance in the film, his role only affirmed his position as a Grammy Award-winning folksinger and writer, humorist, and actor. Fans that saw his role in the film were delighted that his folk singing and craft were admired by those in the production side of the film, choosing for the artist to participate. People who love and appreciate this fantastic folk singer recognize Apatow Productions for including the artist in the film.

Wainwright's last few albums were 2011's 40 Odd Years and his 1998 BBC Sessions. Many of his fans recall these records and performances, but it was that much more of a delight when he was seen in a film produced by Judd Apatow that also starred Seth Rogan and Katherine Heigl. He was seen by many fans since the film was made with a $30 million budget and later generated over $215 million. Sales in DVDs soared, and many more people were able to hear Wainwright's music in the film. As a result, Loudon Wainwright's music was introduced to an entirely new population of young adults attracted by Seth Rogan and Katherine Heigl, thrusting his music back into the spotlight once again.
