Traditionally, it used to deal with health care issues and problems relating to basic human physical and mental health and the treatment of injuries and illness through medication and/or surgery but nowadays it is also being used for cosmetic purposes to improve the appearance of human beings and to remove physical defects in the human body. A lot of modern techniques have been developed for different purposes of these cosmetic improvements. Two common types of these methods include Plastic surgery and hair transplant surgery. Plastic surgery is a branch of medical surgery developed with the aim of correction and restoration of organs in terms of their form and functions. Though it is nowadays considered that plastic surgery is the alternate name for cosmetic surgery, this is not true. Most plastic surgeries are not normally cosmetic in nature. Plastic surgery includes cosmetic surgery, reconstructive surgery, hand surgery, micro surgery and surgery for the treatment of burns. Plastic surgery is normally performed by transferring skin tissues. These tissues can be either taken from one part of the patient and used for the treatment of other part of the body or can be obtained from a donor.

Burn surgery deals with the treatment or recovery of organs or skin that has been destroyed due to burning. This may include treatment immediately after the burn or reconstructive techniques used to get the body parts in previous state once the wounds have healed. Cosmetic surgery primarily uses the same technique used in general plastic surgery but with an aim to improve specific or overall appearance. Hand surgery deals with minor and major injuries and diseases of hand and wrist. Micro surgery is concerned with the transferring of a piece of tissue from one part of body to another and connecting blood vessels to these tissues.

Hair transplant surgery is a sort of surgery that involves moving hairs of one part of the body to another part that is balding or losing hairs. Although primarily used to deal with male baldness, this technique is equally effective for females. This technique can be used to restore eye lashes, eye brows, beard hair, chest hair and hair that grow on the head. Although a useful and commonly used technique, hair transplant surgery has side effects as well such as shock loss which is a temporary yet common sort of side effect. Also hairs transplanted can start falling off at a rapid rate thus resulting in balding again. The areas in which hair have been transplanted can swell as well.
