Otoplasty as a Cosmetic Procedure

People are flocking to the cosmetic surgeon for all manner of treatments these days. They are having their eyelids lifted to improve their youthfulness. Nose jobs and breast augmentation are still incredibly popular. Also, the number one procedure in the country is Botox to improve fine lines and wrinkles. The only natural progression is now becoming increasingly popular. Many are opting for cosmetic surgery on their ears, otoplasty, and they are having it for a variety of problems. Women in our society wear large heavy earrings most of the hours of their days. This, over time leads to a lengthening and stretching of the lobe. The hole gets larger and soon they can stretch down towards the shoulders. This may be a bit of an exaggeration but they definitely can get longer and this look can make a person look older than they are. Consider grandmothers who have large dangling lobes and you will realize how this situation can be unflattering. Fortunately, with otoplasty there are solutions to remedy the problem. Typically this procedure has historically been done to pin the ears back when they protrude too far. Many children have wide spread ears and need to have them placed closer to the head to make them look better. In the past it has been almost entirely a children's procedure. However, women are increasingly complaining about the effects of their jewelry on their appearance and that has resulted in a surge in women looking to have otoplasty to correct the damage. People want perky lobes not dangling floppy flaps of skin. They want to look young and spritely. They know that large and stretched out ears are decidedly unfeminine and they want to correct this problem. One of the great things about otoplasty is that it is a relatively simple procedure. It can be completed in the office and is often done in conjunction with a facelift or other cosmetic procedure. Some are even opting to have their piercings sewn up so that the holes heal and afterward re-piercing and starting fresh. This is an option for those who do not necessarily feel they need to have tissue removed but who would like the long slits to disappear. Another group other than aging women are young hip kids who have large gauge holes punched. They word plugs for a few years but once they got older they realized that the professional world did not take kindly to their large rubber piercings. Unfortunately, depending on the size and a person's body, these will not always just heal up and close. Often otoplasty is required in order to stitch the broken skin back together and make a natural looking lobe.
