The popularity of plastic surgery sometimes goes too far,Plastic Surgery Parties and Their Reputation Among Surgeons Articles as can be seen by parties in which cosmetic procedures are given out as prizes. Some bars around the world have been guilty of throwing such parties, handing out certificates for procedures during a raffle. While patrons tend to appreciate this type of gathering, cosmetic surgeons frown on it. There are a few reasons why such gatherings are not considered a good thing by professionals in this field.

One of the major issues with just handing out vouchers for plastic surgery is that it tends to trivialize the industry. It causes people to neglect to take this decision seriously. Many people spend years thinking about whether they will get a procedure done. They might research during this time, or try to get healthy enough to qualify. If the procedure requires patients to be a certain minimum age, this may translate to more waiting for young patients. During this time, most people put a lot of thought into what they want done, who they will go to for the operation, and how long they will need to take off work or school. Someone who happens to win a procedure at a plastic surgery party can usually take it or leave it, and may go into the operation with a careless, casual attitude. Doctors do not recommend that people treat any operation as a small event, which is why they often claim gatherings giving away treatments trivialize the whole industry.

If you have ever looked into getting a procedure done, you know there are lots of requirements in order to qualify. You must be in good general health, which means you do not have heart problems, high blood pressure, or bleeding disorders that cause excessive bleeding. Such medical issues could increase the risks of the operation, possibly causing you to even pass away during or afterward. In addition, certain procedures, such as liposuction or a tummy tuck, require you to be near a healthy weight.

Also, doctors will consider your frame of mind going into plastic surgery, as you need to have realistic expectations. Otherwise, you will probably be disappointed no matter what your results are, as operations can only change a few aspects of your looks. Thus, if you assume everyone will like you more afterward, or you will automatically be famous, you will be let down. Unfortunately, those who merely win a prize of this magnitude are unlikely to have realistic expectations, and may not even be healthy enough to undergo the operation. Such patients may be upset to learn that they cannot even use their prize to improve their appearance since they do not qualify.

Clearly, winning a prize that consists of free plastic surgery is not as great as it sounds. If you have thought for years about getting something done to improve your looks, then a free award like this may be fine, allowing you to finally afford it. However, few people at such parties are likely to have put much thought into this choice, which is why these gatherings are looked down on by many cosmetic surgeons.
