Pre Shave Oil Explained By Dr Shave

What’s in pre-shave oil?

Natural oils, which are low on the grease factor, such as coconut, sunflower, olive or other oils drawn from plants may be considered the best oils to use. Such oils will not clog the skin pores and cause shaving problems.

Grape seed oil, safflower oil, vitamin A and E, and castor oil can be suspended in a lush base of sweet almond oil and peanut oil. The oils are carefully blended to ensure the effectiveness of their properties and the richness of their aromas. Why use pre shave oil?

There are many reasons some of which are listed below:

  • Intended as a base and applied before lathering, pre-shave oil will provide the highest degree of protection from the razor especially for those with ultra-sensitive skin.
  • Shaving oils lubricate and moisturise your face providing the perfect base for a close comfortable shave, thus resulting in a pain-free shave with no razor burn, rashes or dry, blotchy skin.
  • It also leaves your face conditioned and moisturized.
  • It will soften facial hair and open skin pores to ensure a close shave.
  • Ultra-light grape seed oil contains vitamins, minerals, and protein that tone the skin.
  • Vitamin A and E antioxidant properties soften and smooth skin.
  • Safflower oil promotes cell growth and maintains healthy skin "turnover".
  • Castor oil’s analgesic properties have been used for centuries as a skin clarifier.
  • Oils make the hair stand up for a smoother cut, as well as create a sleek surface for the shaver to glide across

How to apply pre shave oil

Put 3-4 drops in the palm of your hand and then gently ‘slap’ both palms together for 1-2 seconds before massaging the oil into the face. Don’t rub your palms together or for too long as the oil will be then massaged into your palms and not into your face. Let the oil ‘work’ for at least 1 minute before applying the lather. Use this minute to wash the oil from your hands.
