Prilosec Side Effects and Adverse Effects 

Prilosec is one of the most commonly used omeprazole drugs that can be bought over the counter. It acts as a proton pump inhibitor and comes in various forms. Most commonly used drug form, however, is the oral drug form and is usually indicated once daily before a meal, preferably at the same time each day. However, the drug also has certain disadvantages, which include the different Prilosec side effects. 

Some of the Prilosec side effects are as follows with their corresponding incidences included. Almost 6.9% of people are having headaches as a side effect, 5.2% for abdominal or stomach pain, 3.7% for diarrhea, 1.9% for respiratory tract infection like common colds, 1.5% for dizziness, and both 1.1 percent for constipation and back pains. 

Severe or adverse reactions can occur when under Prilosec treatment. It would therefore be wise to have an idea what these adverse effects are as these would usually require the attention of a professional. Also, they are more complicated as compared to more common side effects. Some of them include tinnitus or a ringing sensation in the ears, anaphylaxis or allergic reactions, psychological reactions including depression, aggression, hallucinations and confusion, pancreatitis, hepatic damage, and broken bones.

Although Prilosec can be bought over the counter, it is advisable to consult a physician prior to the intake of the medication. However in the event of self-medication, it is greatly advised not to take Prilosec in combination with other drugs to prevent drug interaction which could lead to unwanted effects.
