Obviously if allergies are making life miserable it makes sense to find the proper medication. Initially it does make sense to find out if it is actually pollen that is bothering you or a family member. Visiting the doctor will help with the investigation of what it is that is actually bothering you. There are many OTC medications that can help as well as some that are strong enough to be prescribed. For sufferers it is so debilitating sometimes that every little thing can be a big help.

There are some simple things that a person can do to lessen the allergic reactions they experience. Pollen that is a trigger for your allergies is also found in excess on carpet and in carpet and house fabric because the static electric works like a magnet. Choose clothing is less conductive to static electricity and will make pollen less attracted to your clothing. Cotton is a great clothing choice, however silk and synthetics are not. Pollen will gather in your hair so you can combat this by doing a thorough head and face wash to keep allergens at bay and away from your pillow while you are sleeping.

While it is lovely to feel and breathe the fresh air, especially during springtime, it makes allergies tougher because of all the pollen in the air. That means when the pollen count is high, close the windows at home. It is warm then turn on the AC and let the filter make life easier. For car travel the same holds true. Instead of using fresh air for the air conditioner, make the switch to the recirculation air option.

It is encouraged to keep track of the daily pollen count where you live or will be outdoors so that you will know ahead of time what to expect. You will be able to maneuver around high pollen days without much trouble or inconvenience. If you have AC and a home heating system, make sure that you have good filters and that you use them to get the best breathing air possible during these times. Use the dryer instead of line drying when doing laundry. This is a good way to control the pollen on your clothes and home fabrics. When the days are rainy, you will get a break and a good breathe of fresh air to enjoy.
