Women who engage in regular sexual activity,Stay tension free with contraceptives Articles often prefer oral contraceptions for preventing pregnancy apart from the usage of condoms to ensure safety. Unlike condoms which are also useful for preventing STD (sexually transmitted disease), birth control pills only help in preventing pregnancy. Oral contraceptive pills have proven to be quite effective in preventing pregnancy which is why is why most women use them. It makes it important to chose the most suitable pill for you. There are two major types of oral contraceptives, which commonly known as 'the pills' and 'mini pills'. Mini pills are quite popular and contain a single hormone that helps in preventing pregnancy.

The pill

The pill refers to those oral contraceptives which are composed of 2 hormones which work just the way natural hormones do, helping prevent pregnancy in 3 ways. They are often known as combined oral contraceptives. The three most popular pills included in this category are Yasmin, Dianette, and Microgynon. These pills have been proven to be almost 100% effective in preventing pregnancy. They work in such a way that they trick the body into believing that ovulation has already occurred; they prevent the womb lining from thickening and also thicken the cervical mucus so that the sperm cannot enter the womb. Ethinylestradiol is the common ingredient present in all three pills mentioned above, while drospirenone is present in Yasmin, cyproterone acetate is present in Dianette, and levenorgestrel is present in Microgynon.

The presence of drospirenone in Yasmin, potentially benefits the appearance of skin and hair. Cyproterone acetate in Dianette helps in dealing with hair growth and acne. Microgynon can also be prescribed to women who are suffering from endometriosis, an extra growth of cells on organs outside the womb.

These contraceptive pills are supposed to be taken on the very first day of your period and to be continued for 21 days, leaving 7 pill-free days. Taking these pills also reduce the menstrual pain and helps you make cyclical bleeding more predictable. The pills can be taken with our without food, but most importantly it is better if taken at the same time everyday to maximize its effect in preventing pregnancy. Women who are of the age 18 or above and are looking for a long-term contraception can take these pills. There are certain common conditions for these three pills such as breastfeeding and pregnant women, those with a history of circulation problems, heart problems and diabetes because of which these pills should be avoided. The commonly notice side effects for all three pills are weight changes, vaginal bleeding, headaches, breast pain, nausea, and a decreased sex drive.

These pills are mostly prescribed by a doctor or a nurse after they have taken your complete medical history, so as to check which of the contraceptive pills will be suitable for you. The other way of obtaining these pills is to buy them online through registered pharmacies, where your medical history is passed on to a doctor through an online procedure.
