The Benefits of Using Essential Oils

The essential oils used in aromatherapy are extracted from plants, grasses, fruit peels, wood, roots and leaves. Essential oils not only have unique wonderful aromas but they contain hormones, vitamins and cleansing agents. Essential oils have the unique ability to promote physical and psychological benefits for the mind and body.

The powerful benefits of essential oils:

  • Helps boost the immune system thereby creating positive health effects
  • Eliminates harmful molds, viruses and bacteria from your environment
  • Purifies the air and increases oxygen
  • Destroys odors from mold, animals and cigarette smoke
  • Essential oils can lift your mood, ease your stress, and energize your day.
  • Provides a welcoming aromatic clean environment for guests
How to Use Essential Oils

The amazing thing about essential oils is their power benefits and versatility. Their ease of use in aromatherapy can be a wonderful learning experience but you must use them properly in order to achieve optimum results.

There are 2 main ways to use and apply pure essential oils:

  • Inhalation – When oils are inhaled, micro-molecules of essential oils travel through the nasal passages to the limbic system of the brain which is the seat of memory and emotion. The breathing in of essential oils is thought to trigger memories and emotions within the limbic system, which in turn stimulates a response within the entire system. Inhalation can be done by directly inhaling from bottle or by diffusing. Diffusing is an excellent way to eliminate bacteria and viruses in your home, support the immune system and create balance and well-being.
  • Topical Application - Essential oils can be applied to the skin using a variety of techniques. It is important to note that most essential oils cannot be applied directly to the skin without being diluted. Undiluted use of essential oils on the skin can be harmful and cause severe skin irritation or sensitization. Essential oil molecules are extremely tiny and are able to penetrate the skin through its pores, hair follicles and sweat glands. In order to dilute it is recommended to use a carrier oil. A carrier oil is a vegetable oil derived from the fatty portion of a plant, usually from the seeds, kernels or nuts. Common Carrier oils used are Sweet Almond Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, Jojoba Oil, Grapeseed Oil and Coconut Oil.
