The dangers of the narcotic drug Heroin

Heroin is one of the best known drugs that are available and it seems as though everyone would be aware of the dangers and consequences that can arise from using this type of drug. However, there are clearly many reasons why people would start taking this drug and it is appealing for a whole host of different people so there needs to be a greater understanding of the drug and its issues. The way that heroin is taken by a person can have a massive impact on its affect and this also has to be taken into consideration when thinking about the drug.

Many people will inject the heroin which naturally involves spiking a needle into a vein in their body. For many people, this is an extremely difficult topic as they do not like the idea of doing so and there are dangers of missing the vein. However, a far greater risk occur when a number of people are sharing the heroin and using the same needle to inject the drug into their system. The dangers of sharing dirty needles is very well documented with blood related disorders, ranging all the way up to HIV and full-blown AIDS being possible through sharing needles. By this stage, the user is very addicted to the drug and is therefore so desperate to get their hit that they are unable to think about the negative consequences their actions would cause. Quite simply, injecting this drug is likely to cause a whole host of related illnesses and risks which only add to the basic problems that can arise from using this drug. Smoking the drug can cause it to get to blood stream at a slower rate which may encourage a person to take more because they don’t think they are getting a full hit but either way there are difficulties involved with all methods.

One of the major problems of using this drug lies in the fact that overdoses are very common. There is an argument over use that the body of the person using the drug will develop a tolerance to the drug meaning they have to take more in order to get the same hit. This is all well and good if the purity level is of the same standard but if a person takes a larger hit of a purer version of the drug, they are taking a massive risk. This is where the consequences of overdosing become much more realistic and far more likely to have a negative result. The tolerance will only work for levels that a user is accustomed to which means that an unusually pure concoction is going to cause a great amount of difficulties for any user.

Heroin may have that cool factor about it due to the number of rock stars and celebrities who have taken the drug but the list of ailments and issues that arise from taking it is very un-cool. The risk of choking on your own vomit is greatly enhanced when taking this form of medication, which is due to the fact that the drug reduces the ability of the body’s coughing reflex to work properly. This is another major reason why taking this drug may cause problems in other areas of a persons life.
