Face lifts aren't just for women; although women may be the largest cliental that have this procedure done,The Face Lift Procedure Is Effective For Men As Well Articles they are not the only gender that has it done. Women are probably more likely than men to have a face lift because women are not considered sexy with deep wrinkles or fine lines across their face. Men on the other hand can get away with looking sexy despite the signs of aging. Look at Harrison Ford for example. Harrison Ford is an actor well into his sixties who is still a box office draw as a romantic leading man, despite the signs of aging on his face. How many women actresses can you say that about?

But make no mistakes a face lift on a man is different from a woman because a man is different animal. A man's face has more blood cells in the face than a woman's face which means a man having this procedure done will face some slightly different risk than a woman including the increased risk of blood clotting.

Any surgery carries some risk and whether you are male or female the common risk factors both genders face undergoing a face lift include the possibility of nerve damage to the facial muscles which is usually temporary when it occurs but can be permanent. Another minor risk factor includes visible incision scars which are harder to conceal with the short haircuts that most men have compared to women who usually have longer hair that can conceal scars. Most incision marks are made around the chin and ears and are usually not visibly after a few months of fading to a light white.

Another minor side effect that can occur is some skin discoloration and although this is usually a temporary side effect it can last for months before dissipating on its own and can be more of an annoyance than anything else.

If you are a smoker you may want to stop before your surgery and advise your plastic surgeon of your smoking habit. Smoking can increase your risk factor for post-surgical infections and it can even cause you to react differently to the general anesthesia which can be life threatening.
How the procedure itself is done doesn't different much for men verses women despite the added complications that a male face brings. The plastic surgeon will make the incisions at the hairline to help hide the scars and it will continue near the temple to the front of the ear, around the ear lobe and then go behind the ear lobe. The natural folds of the ear and your hair will generally hide any scars, unless you have very short hair. The plastic surgeon will tighten up the muscles in your face and reposition your skin. The end result should be a more youthful appearance but keep in mind this won't change your skin texture- it may lift out some fine lines but it won't erase wrinkles. For that you need a whole different procedure.
