If you starve, your body will try to make up for the lack of food and therefore will scarcely burn calories; and once you eat, your body will try its best to absorb as much fat as possible in order to recover from your starvation period.

By eating smaller meals more frequently you will help your body in assimilating the nutrients it needs without having to absorb more fat than it requires.
