Alcohol and caffeine can be dangerous,The Fun Of Summer And The Seriousness Of Dehydration Articles especially in the summertime for many people who choose to consume these beverages because summertime can cause serious dehydration problems. The hot muggy summer days are often portrayed in commercials as times of fun and enjoyment in the suns rays, but in reality these summer afternoons can be very dangerous.

The risk of dehydration and over heating is very high in the heat of the summer but when coupled with consumption of alcohol or caffeine it can become not only a serious health risk but can even turn deadly. When you are having an outdoor event it is important to try and keep large quantities of water and ice on hand at all times and some locations even offer up cooling stations which are not only shaded but usually allow for fans to blow and water to spritz on a person to help bring down their core temperature.

If someone has been drinking and has become intoxicated or even vomited it is important to realize that this individual is at an even higher risk for becoming dehydrated. Signs of dehydration include profuse sweating, cold, clammy, pale skin tone, extreme lethargy, and a dry mouth. Unfortunately, alcohol can mask the symptoms as many times a person may not realize that they are becoming dehydrated and may be difficult or uncooperative when someone is trying to help them.

Anyone that is intoxicated and in jeopardy of dehydration should be tended to at once by starting with a shower in cold water to help bring down their core temperature. After lowering the core temperature they should be moved to a cool shady place with air conditioning if there is one close. After the second stage of the cooling process you help them drink plenty of water to rehydrate. If they have been vomiting, this can be treated with some ginger ale. This will help settle the stomach. You can then proceed with some crackers of pretzels that will aid in keeping everything calm and intact.

Dehydration and over heating should always be approached with precautionary measures and continually encourage everyone to stay hydrated. Just as important is to know the signs and symptoms of over heating and dehydration and how best to get immediate help to them as soon as it is apparent that the core temperature is in trouble as quickly as possible. Reacting quickly with the right treatment can derail some serious damage to the person. Hydration should never ever be taken lightly and as insignificant as it might seem to some people, it can save a life.
