There are two types of hemorrhoids,The Link Between Hemorrhoids and Obesity Articles internal and external (with a possible third type - internal growing into an external).

There are various treatments for them including over the counter remedies, but these are not always recommended or effective.

External hemorrhoids can be soothes with an ice bag on them. This will help numb the pain and any itching. Try not to sit down for too long periods of time as this is putting pressure on them. Try to go for a walk or do something standing up.

Most symptoms of hemorrhoids can be relieved with a warm bath two to three times a day for ten minutes. Some people add a bit of salt to the bath. This will help keep them clean as well as soothing any pain.

Eating plenty of fibre and drinking lots of water (around eight glasses a day) will help to keep your bowel movements easy - this is very important as any extra strain is likely to be very painful and possibly cause bleeding. There are also supplements that will help soften your stool that can be bought or given to you by your doctor.

If your hemorrhoids have not eased in a 1-2 weeks make sure to see a doctor. Thrombosed (clotted) hemorrhoids can take a long time to be totally cured.

The above will help to ease the pain, but often the sufferer will want to look for treatments instead

Hemorrhoid preparation usually refers to a medication that temporarily relieves the more annoying or painful symptoms of hemorrhoids - pain, swelling, itching etc. It uses a drug called phenylephrine. For some people it is very useful whilst for others using this drug for treatment is not recommended.

There are two types of hemorrhoids, external and internal. External refers to hemorrhoids that are on the outside of the body and visible, whilst internal refer to those inside the anus. External are more easily treatable due to them being easier to get to.

Hemorrhoid preparation, such as preparation h, usually comes in the form of a cleansing wipe that you can use up to four times a day. But there are tubes type treatments for internal hemorrhoids that you basically inject into the anus (by inserting the applicator tip into the rectum). The phenylephrine decreases the swelling by narrowing the blood vessels. Before you use it is recommended that you clean the area with soap and water and gently dry.

A warm bath with salt water is a good way to relieve pain and to keep them clean for treatment. An ice bag on external hemorrhoids can also help to keep down swelling and relieve pain and irritation.

Unfortunately, a treatment like this is not good for all people. Some people will not want to use drugs and some people are recommended to not use drugs depending in their condition. If this is the case for yourself it is better to use a natural treatment. There are natural treatments around that work just as well as hemorrhoid preparation but with the advantage of not using a drug.
