The Many Benefits of Breast Implants

Breast implants aren't just for women who want bigger breast; they are also for women who want to have a more symmetrical bust line. Breasts that are not the same size are a common problem that many women experience to one degree or another. So it's not considered uncommon for plastic surgeons to install an implant that has more ccs of saline on one side than the other side in order to create two same size breast when it's all said and done.

Many women may not even notice that they are slightly larger on one side than the other because the difference is so slight, while other women are more aware of the size difference and the ensuing difficulty in finding a bra that fits adequately as a result. Breast implants can make clothes and bras fit better and help present a profile that is more symmetrically pleasing in the process.

The pros of gel implants have been well touted as the most natural feeling implant due to their weight and texture. The downside of course is the fact that despite the new advances in technology, including the almost gummy bear like texture of gel implants, they can leak into your body undetected over time. Silent leaks are a source of concern and worry for many patients and the answer has been to have yearly MRI's done to ensure the gel implant is intact. 

If a leak is detected in a MRI the implant has to be removed and any escaping gel has to be cleaned up out of your body. This can mean multiple surgeries and the cost for a new implant to be placed. For women who don't want the hassle of the required follow up visits- saline implants are a viable option offering the added benefit of being easier to size and adjust accordingly for women who are asymmetrical. Since saline breast implants can be filled once they are in place it's easy for your plastic surgeon to adjust them to size after the swelling of surgery has gone down to ensure they are symmetrical. 

Your plastic surgeon can add or take away saline outside of the surgical unit in office with just a needle in an office visit. The breast implants will self-seal from the fill up and your bust size can almost be guaranteed to be symmetrical afterwards, which is not an option with gel implants.

So if your goal of surgery is to correct a slight size difference in your bust line be sure to talk to your plastic surgeon about your concerns so they can ensure that the breast implant type you choose will be the right one to help affect the change you are after.
