The training course is quite intense and can take up to a maximum of 6 yrs to complete. It covers areas such as microbiology, period ontology, anatomy, and radiography. A written exam and a clinical exam are given.

Things that include; checking a patient’s medical charts, examinations, oral checkups, x-rays, and doing temporary fillings. Documentation of all activities are also a part of the job. This is only a portion of the duties performed by the professionals.

Hygienists can be found working in a variety of locations; schools, hospitals, correctional facilities, and nursing homes. Using the tools of the trade with skill and administering local anaesthesia is most important in caring for patients. Another area that they work in is the administrative portion of the industry and they are very much involved in educating the general consumer.
