Ah, the dreaded visit to your gynecologist. I’d be lying if I said that it’s no big deal. No women (that I know of) enjoys those stirrups, baring it all, being poked and prodded down there, and having to worry about test results. But alas, it’s something we all need to go through, at least once a year.

Ah,Tips To Make Your Gyno Visit Go Smoothly Articles the dreaded visit to your gynecologist. I’d be lying if I said that it’s no big deal. No women (that I know of) enjoys those stirrups, baring it all, being poked and prodded down there, and having to worry about test results. But alas, it’s something we all need to go through, at least once a year. Here are a few tips that should help you get through the pain of your doc’s pokes into your private parts and your private life.

•    Find a doctor that you like. This is probably the most important thing. If you feel more comfortable with a woman gyno, make that a top priority. You need to feel comfortable opening up and sharing private details of your sex life and your vaginal health with this person. You need to find someone you can trust and respect, someone who is kind.
•    You don’t have to talk about your sexual history with your gyno, but it certainly does help. Try not to hold things back. I promise you your doc has heard worse. She’ll get a better idea of tests you should take and advice she should give if she knows about your sexual activeness, or lack thereof.
•    Make a list. You don’t want to leave the appointment and then kick yourself because you forgot to ask for a new prescription for Yasmin. Also, if you make a list with all your concerns, there’s a better chance that you’ll actually address them, rather than shy away from the sort of embarrassing things like how you wish you had bigger boobs and how you don’t know how to deal with your partner’s ED, or how you’re afraid that your oral contraception will make you fat—yes, these are all valid concerns that you can discuss with your gyno.
•    Time your appointment for when you are mid-cycle. Your doctor can easily give you a pap when you have your period, but you’ll be more comfy if you’re clean and fresh down there…which leads to another tip…
•    Shower and wear clean underwear before an appointment—though that should go without saying!

Most importantly, relax and take advantage of this time to learn more about your health!
