Generally doctors suggest reducing weight for people whose weight is higher than the normal. This is true in case of patients with osteoarthritis also. Reducing weight by walking, exercising and by taking balanced diet would be highly helpful in reducing the pain due to osteoarthritis. Steroid injections and joint replacement surgeries are the most popular treatments available for very severe pain, which may not be possible in some cases due to age and other health conditions.

Some of the common ingredients in food like the pomegranate, ginger and turmeric also are helpful in reducing the joint pain caused by osteoarthritis. But their usage has not shown any proven results so far. The tests for using the supplements are an ongoing process in the health care industry and the results are obtained based on the positive feedbacks of the experiments done in the previous years.  In spite of all these medications, surgeries and supplements available for osteoarthritis, there are also some of the traditional treatments followed across the globe like the acupuncture, ayurvedic treatments, yoga, and other techniques which also help patients with osteoarthritis get relieved of their pain to some extent.
