When testosterone comes in contact with the enzymes in the hair cell, it is transformed into the more potent DHT and this attaches itself to receptors inside the follicles. Build up of DHT causes the follicles to shrink. Some follicles die resulting in significant hair loss.

These are the only drugs approved by the Food and Drug Administration to treat hair loss in the U.S. Other methods that require the help of doctor are surgery, hair implants, and low level hair laser treatment. Concealment of hair loss may also be an alternative. You could use a wig or toupee to help hide the hair loss.
